
Deb taught two classes in the Tulane School of Social Work graduate program for a number of years: “Family Violence: Theory and Therapy” and “Clinical Work with Children.” She also trained numerous groups of volunteers in crisis management and short-term counseling techniques in the context of family violence, loss and grief work.
She also taught workshops through the University of Texas School of Social Work’s Office of Professional Development: “Exploring the Grey Areas of Social Work Practice: An Interactive Workshop Applying Ethics Rules to Challenging Clinical Situations” and “Social Work Practice on the Interface: Developing Greater Competence and Comfort in the Legal Arena.” Additionally, she taught through St. Edward’s Office of Professional Education: “Ethics & Litigation: A Survival Guide.”
Deb is also training mental health professionals around the United States through Cross Country Education: "Legal and Ethical Issues in Mental Health Practice: Protecting Yourself and Your Clients."
Deb offers clinical consultation in individual or group settings to mental health professionals regarding difficult cases. She has trained and supervised clinical staff in a myriad of settings, as well as provided clinical supervision toward licensure for LCSW.
Deb also consults with mental health professionals in ethics, risk management, and prevention of client complaints. Mental health professionals who find themselves involved in legal proceedings of any type (e.g., depositions, testifying at trial, or defending professional malpractice lawsuits) may schedule one-time consultations with Deb for guidance.
Deb has lectured frequently in the areas of mental health ethics and risk prevention, and effective collaboration with attorneys to help clients who have ongoing litigation issues.
